2022 Volvo C40 Recharge
For this week’s review we’ve taking a look at Volvo’s newest EV, first Coupe SUV, and first vehicle without leather, their 2022 C40 Recharge.
Disclosure: Volvo Canada provided me with the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #VolvoC40Recharge
INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 7/10
Something a bit different in the C40 is there’s no engine start/stop button. You simply set the shifter to drive from park and it turns on if it detects the key is in the car. To turn off the car, simply exit and lock the car. This could be a bit tricky if you want to have passengers in the car but exit the vehicle. Personally I would have preferred a traditional start stop button as it is more intuitive.
The acceleration is really quick in a straight line. The wireless charging bay is large enough to fit any size phone! The legroom is the same as the XC40 but the headroom is actually better since they lowered the seats.
The rear visibility is poor and the position of the camera has most of the field of view blocked by the car’s body.
INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 7/10
Legroom is like the XC40 but headroom is less due to the sloping roofline
Rear seats fold in a 60/40 fashion with a ski pass through
Rear passengers have rear climate controls from the centre console
Clever storage options throughout the cabin
INTERIOR STORAGE:7/10
18 Cu Ft rear trunk cargo space and has a small front trunk.
The sloping tailgate really cuts into practical cargo space for large boxy items. The load floor is pretty flat when seats are pushed down
Power lift trunk
Load floor turns into. divider with grocery bag hooks
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2022 Volvo C40 recharge:
The 2022 C40 Recharge is an attractive car and found myself admiring the exterior styling every time I got in and out. It is Volvo’s first coupe style SUV. It targets the customer that wants something a bit more unique looking on the road because most buyers will opt for the boxier XC40 for maximum driver visibility, passenger head room and cargo space.
While I love the looks, I would opt for the XC40 if I was set on a Volvo. The rear visibility in the C40 is too compromised for me and the price is a bit too high.
The ride quality for the C40 was stiffer than I expected so you’ll want to get in for a test drive if you’re used a softer ride.
