For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE450 Coupe.

ACCELERATION: 9/10

  • 3.0L inline-6 turbo paired with a mild hybrid drive

  • 362 hp @ 5500-6100 / 369 lb-ft @ 1600-4500

  • 9G-TRONIC 9-speed

  • 0-100km in 5.4 seconds

  • Good amount of power

BRAKING: 6/10

  • 70–0 mph - 169 ft

  • Stopping distance is quite long. I suspect it may need

HANDLING: 7/10

  • It’s not meant for tackling winding roads at it’s limit

RIDE: 9/10

  • Comfy ride that feels like a traditional luxury car

ECONOMY: 8/10

  • 17/25/20 MPG (City/Highway/Combined)

  • Mild hybrid system helps with improving fuel efficiency

CABIN NOISE: 9/10

  • Very quiet while driving

EXTERIOR: 9/10

  • Coupe like styling with SUV strength

  • Some of the vents are functional

  • Exhaust are fake!

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 9/10

  • If the exterior doesn’t impress you then wait till you see the interior! It’s one of my favourite cabin interior designs on the market. I like the chunky grab handles for both front passengers

  • The dual screens looks amazing but it probably won’t be around for long as the S-class has a tablet style look. It won’t be long till that makes it way to the rest of the family

  • Has soft closing doors making it very luxurious

  • Steering is light making it easy to turn the wheel when trying to get out of a tight parking spot

  • Has dual visors so you can block sun coming from the side and front!

  • I like this generation of the steering wheel with physical buttons and the rotary dials to assign custom toggles

  • Has heated and cooled cup holders

  • MBUX Infotainment is my favourite of all the brands I’ve tested

  • I like how there is still quite a bit of physical buttons. If you saw my S580 review, we may expect to see a direction towards all touch controls which is a bit tricky to work with while drive driving.

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 6/10

  • Has less legroom and headroom from a standard GLE

  • Seats can fold 40/20/40

  • The mesh storage could be a con because you can leave your iPad, laptop or phone there because it would be easily visible to thieves

INTERIOR STORAGE: 7/10

  • Hands free power lift trunk

  • You lose a bit of practically with the sloping roof line but I was able to squeeze in my 90inch softbox without having to deconstruct it which made my day!

  • Has a button to lower the suspension to make loading easier if you have the air suspension add-on

  • Spare tire under load floor

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE450 Coupe:

The 2022 GLE450 is traditional luxury at its best offering a smooth, quiet and stylish ride.

If you’re shopping for a luxury midsize SUV you might be a little overwhelmed by the options.The GLE450 is a blissful blend of style and comfort. I think you'd have to be really attached to the coupe styling to get this version. More folks including myself would opt for the regular GLE450 to have a more practical trunk, legroom and headroom to use as a family vehicle.

The coupe for that person who wants something a little different looking from everything else on the road.
