2022 Volvo S60 B5 AWD R-Design

For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2022 Volvo S60. For 2022 the T5 & T6 powertrain is gone and replaced with the B6, a mild hybrid system.

Disclosure: Volvo Canada provided me with the 2022 Volvo S60 Cross Country for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #VolvoS60

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 9/10

The premium sedan market is small and very competitive with a lot of very sporty options. The S60 offers something different, with something comfortable, luxurious and well designed instead of being sharp to drive.

The transition to a Google Android Infotainment system has it’s pros and cons. Google Maps and Google Assistant work great however the menu system is very confusing to use. The camera system can only show one angle at a time. I like having a split screen to see the 360 view paired with a front or rear camera. With such a huge tablet display it would be convenient to have this feature. Infotainment is the updated one and thumbs down for me. There is too much digging into menus to find things. It’s almost as if this was done on purpose to force the driver to use Google assistant voice commands instead of directly interfacing with the system yourself.

The fuel gauge cluster has no arrow to let you know which side of the car the pump needs to be. The wireless charging bay is a bit small. If you have a large phone it may not be able to fit. The audio system is usually pretty big but since this vehicle is shrunken down the speaker placement don’t deliver the same audio experience as their XC90.

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 8/10

  • Headroom is good but the legroom is average in the class.

  • Rear passengers have rear climate controls from the centre console

INTERIOR STORAGE:9/10

  • 11.6 Cu Ft of trunk cargo space

  • Rear seats fold in a 60/40 fashion with a ski pass through

  • Power lift trunk

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2022 Volvo S 60 B5 AWD R-Design:

The 2022 Volvo S60 is a handsome looking car with a quiet and traditional interior. Volvo is focused on safety with an overwhelming reliance on stability control. I would opt for the Recharge trim to gain 200 HP and much better fuel economy with a PHEV system.
