2021 Mercedes AMG A35 Sedan

For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2021 Mercedes AMG A35 Sedan. This is the least experience AMG in North America.

Disclosure: Mercedes Benz Canada provided me with the 2021 Mercedes AMG A35 Sedan for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #MercedesAMGA35

ACCELERATION: 8.5/10

  • 2.0L I4 Turbo - 302 HP / 295 lb-ft

  • 7 Speed DCT

  • 0-100km in 4.7 seconds

BRAKING: 9.5/10

  • 105ft to stop from 100 km to 0

HANDLING: 8.5/10

  • The amount of grip we get on these small tires is impressive and feels like it drives on rails. Has a great nimble feel to it.

RIDE: 6.75/10

  • This was a lot more successful than the A35 Hatch. It didn’t have a constant creaking issue like the hatch version I tested a few months ago.

  • The DCT is improved but it still feels a bit jerky when driving

  • Suspension is pretty stiff and vehicle is low to the ground. You’ll feel a lot of imperfections!

ECONOMY: 9.5/10

  • 24/31/27 MPG (City/Highway/Combined)

CABIN NOISE: 6.75/10

  • Louder than most of the competion

EXTERIOR: 9/10

  • Looking at the front, it has lots of functional vents to direct air around the tires. A lot of cooling going on

  • Looking at the rear, it also has fully functional aero treatment as well

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 8.25/10

  • Tilt/telescopic column with a decent range of motion

  • 4-way lumbar support

  • 3-position seat memory

  • Extending thigh support

  • Has their MBUX infotainment and modern interior cabin design found in the rest of the Mercedes line up

  • Has USB-C port charging

  • Steering wheel is 3 spoke with a split at the bottom. Thick sport grips that are flat on the side and bottom. Paddles are easy to reach and digital toggles. This is an excellent steering wheel!

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 7.5/10

  • Has a decent amount of leg and head room in the back. If you’re looking to seat taller people in the back you should definitely consider the A-Class over the CLA.

  • 40/20/40 folding seats makes it much easier to carry long items like skis while carrying 4 passengers

Combined Legroom:

  • 77.5 - S60

  • 77.2 - M3

  • 77.1 - 3-Series

  • 76.3 - A3/S3

  • 76.3 - ILX

  • 75.8 - 2-series

  • 75.7 - AMG A35

  • 75.7 - CLA35

  • 75.6 - CT4-V

Rear Headroom:

  • 37.8 - M3

  • 37.7 - 3-Series

  • 37.2 - S60

  • 37.2 - AMG A35

  • 36.5 - CT4-V

  • 36.1 - A3/S3

  • 35.9 - ILX

  • 35.7 - CLA35

  • 35.6 - 2-Series

INTERIOR STORAGE:7/10

  • 8.6 Cu Ft of trunk cargo space

  • Power lift trunk

  • Under the load floor we see a tire inflator, subwoofer, audio system amplifier and a little bit extra storage room

  • Rear seats release from the trunk

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2021 Mercedes amg A35:

The Mercedes AMG A35 is a lot of fun. It reminds me of a grown up Civic Type R. The only thing you have to watch out for is the price tag. It can get expensive really quick and overlap with other vehicles even in Mercedes’ line-up
