2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition

For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition. This special version made it’s Canadian debut in Toronto! It offers a unique exterior and interior treatment that emphasize the rugged heritage and comes in a new exterior color Midnight Pine.

Disclosure: Nissan Canada provided me with the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #NissanPathfinder

ACCELERATION: 8/10

  • 3.5L V6 - 284HP @ 6400 & 259 lb-ft @ 4800

  • CVT & Optional AWD

  • 6000 lbs towing capacity (best in class)

  • 7.9 second 0-100 km/hr

BRAKING: 7.5/10

  • Reasonable stopping score thanks to itès wide tires

HANDLING: 6.5/10

  • Sometimes feels a bit like driving a boat. You’re not going to be carving through windy roads like a CX9 or Pilot.

RIDE: 9/10

  • Soft ride combined with its soft and supportive seats will make this an excellent vehicle for long road trips.

ECONOMY: 8.25/10

  • 20/27/23 City/Highway/Combined (FWD)

  • 19/26/22- City/Highway/Combined (AWD)

  • 19/26/21- City/Highway/Combined (AWD Platinum)

  • If you do a lot of highway driving you’ll have good fuel economy but because it doesn’t have have engine stop and start feature, it’s city fuel economy will suffer.

CABIN NOISE: 7.75/10

  • Wind noise is very well controlled but road noise is a bit more noticable if you’re on rougher roads.

EXTERIOR: 9/10

  • 19 inch diamond cut wheels is an eye catcher!

  • Midnight Pine colour new for this trim looks really cool, especially in different lighting conditions!

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 8/10

  • Very comfortable seats even though it doesn’t have the same range of adjustability.

  • Although some elements are looking a bit like a vehicle from 2-3 years, I found it nice to look at. It’s aged well considering this generation of Pathfinder has been around since 2013

  • I do prefer all the analog buttons Nissan provides in the center dash as the infotainment is clunky to work with.

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 8.5/10

  • All Pathfinders are 7 seater

  • Front passenger seat does not have the same range of adjustments as the captain seat but still very comfortable

  • 2nd row seats are very comfortable as well with a decent amount of recline.

  • The 2nd row seats on the passenger side can move in 2 ways to allow for a childseat to be attached and still be able to access the 3rd row from that side of the vehicle.

  • Legroom is super generous and class leading in both the 2nd and 3rd row!

Combined Legroom:

  • 114.7 - Pathfinder

  • 113.4 - Explorer

  • 112.9 - Traverse

  • 112.8 - Atlas

  • 112.3 - Sorento

  • 111.2 - Pilot

  • 110.3 - Highlander

  • 109.1 - Tahoe

2nd Row Headroom:

  • 40.6 - Explorer

  • 40.4 - Atlas

  • 40.2 - Pilot

  • 40.0 - Traverse

  • 39.9 - Highlander

  • 39.4 - Pathfinder

  • 39.3 - Sorento

  • 38.7 - Tahoe

INTERIOR STORAGE: 7/10

  • 16.2 Cu Ft of storage which is small but pretty normal for this class

  • If you need more storage and need to haul a large family, you’re probably better off with a minivan

  • Also if you lift up the load floor you’ll find a deep storage there

INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM: 6/10

  • Outdated infotainment system with a pretty small screen.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2019 Nissan pathfinder creek edition:

Nissan’s Rock Creek edition of their Pathfinder gives it a much more rugged look to pay tribute to it’s off roading heritage. From most angles the car looks black but when the light hits it just right there is a subtle green highlight. It holds the trophy for best in class towing at 6000 lbs and is ready to haul your whole family with generous legroom space and comfortable seats for everyone.

One thing to note is the Rock Creek package is a cosmetic thing. The suspensions, and engines remain the same so don’t expect to have any upgrades to off-roading. The Pathfinder traded that away years ago to focus on hauling families around the city and road trips. Overall the Pathfinder is a solid value for the class as most people don’t take their crossovers off-roading anyways.
