2019 Infiniti QX50
For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the all new 2019 Infiniti QX50 in North America. Infiniti has gone back to the drawing board and completely re-designed the QX50 to have high practicality and efficiency. Under the hood is the world’s first 4 cylinder engine that can mechanically vary it’s compression ratio. What that means is the engine can operate in a mode where it’s very efficiency, and then it can switch modes later to optimize for performance.
Disclosure: Infiniti Canada provided me with the 2019 Infiniti QX50 for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #InfinitiQX50
ACCELERATION: 8/10
2.0L VC Turbo - 268HP @ 5600 & 280 lb-ft @1600-4800
Variable Compression Engine
6.5 second 0-100 km/hr
BRAKING: 7/10
Average stopping score
HANDLING: 7.8/10
Pretty good handling in corners
RIDE: 7.25/10
Suspensions is tuned very similar to the rest of the competition which is a bit of a firmer ride. I personally enjoy the amount of road feel without it being punishing.
ECONOMY: 10/10
24/31/27- City/Highway/Combined FWD
24/30/26- City/Highway/Combined AWD
The Variable Compression allows it to have a lot of power while at the same time still have class leading fuel economy
CABIN NOISE: 8/10
Don’t get much engine noise in the cabin
Active Torque Rod helps cancel out engine noise and other vibrations in the vehicle.
EXTERIOR: 9/10
Love the new styling that looks more chiseled and upright
The Infiniti logo on the grill is massive but looks great
INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 8./10
Seats are comfy but I wish it had extending thigh cushions, additional lumbar support and inflatable side bolsters which you do find in some of the luxury competition. The cushion is still very comfy to sit in for long periods.
INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 8/10
One of most comfortable back seats in the luxury category.
Rear leg room is generous and class leading.
Head room is good thanks to it’s straighter roof line
INTERIOR STORAGE: 9/10
Trunk cargo capacity is class leading thanks to Infiniti moving from a RWD layout to FWD. The trunk space went from 18.6 Cu Ft to 31.1 Cu Ft.
In Canada we only have the AWD version but there is still class leading trunk space. In the US, they have both FWD and AWD.
Additional storage can be found under the trunk floor
Rear seats can be flipped down with a click of a button from the trunk.
INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM: 6.5/10
Dual screen system that needs an update.
For a vehicle that has been completely redesigned, the infotainment system looks out of place since it’s ported over from their other Infiniti vehicles. It looks and operates like last gen technology
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2019 infiniti qx50:
Infiniti’s 2019 QX50 is a huge improvement from it’s predecessor. It is sure to win over younger buyers with its tech, bold design, luxurious cabin, and practicality. It is one of the best all rounder vehicles and values in the segment. If you’re looking for terrific cabin space, good performance, and fuel economy the QX50 is a no brainer.
