Mango Yummy
Mango Yummy is a Chinese dessert shop in Richmond across the Richmond Center Mall. Known for their mango and durian desserts. There are long queues but you'll get your order pretty quickly. Most customers get their desserts to go as seating is usually full and seating is first come first serve.
Since you seat yourself, don't be surprised if you grab a table and have to clean it yourself as staff is usually too busy making desserts or taking orders at the cash. The service is like a typical Asian restaurant.
WHAT WE TRIED:
Mango Sago & Grapefruit | $6
Mango Shaved Ice | $7
Mochi (various flavours)
They use to be pretty good but have dropped the ball on consistently providing the same quality. They are unable to keep the quality which might be a result of their popularity and not being able to have enough ripe mangoes. At our last visit, the mangoes were served yellow, hard and sour. They should have just 86'd it from the menu instead of making a buck and providing a terrible dish. We commuted from downtown to have the dessert and was thoroughly disappointed how it tasted. When the mango is ripe, the desserts are pretty good.
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF MANGO YUMMY:
For a place known for their mango desserts, and serving mango that's not even ripe yet is mental. They should not be trying to make a quick profit serving below average food for their signature item. It takes a long time to gain a regular customer and only a second to lose it. We wouldn't recommend this place unless you just want to take a pretty photo for Instagram. If you do come, ask the cashier to let you QC the mangoes before ordering anything. If there is anything you love at Mango Yummy and think we should try it next time, feel free to contact us!
The Bad:
- May not be able to get a seat
- Feels more focused on profit than having standards
The Good:
- Desserts are decent when mangoes are ripe
- Relatively fast and affordable
